International Center for Converging Technology building

International Center for Converging Technology building is set up for revitalizing state-of-the-art techniques science-technology research and industry-academic cooperation. It is formed with 6 ground floors and there is global research business center Battelle Memorial Institute which is renowned for global research enterprise on 3, 4, 5 floors.

Carl F. Kohrt, a chairman of Battelle Memorial Institute which is an international science and technology enterprise in USA, had decided to establish the Battelle Memorial Institute as bioengineering and medical science R&D center in Korea university when visiting in Korea on 2006. In the same year, Battelle Memorial Institute had started the construction of International Center for Converging Technology building.

Among the total construction expense of approximate 17 billion won, Seoul City supported 6 billion won as part of the program for growing into a world-class research institute. The building exterior is consisted of THK24 thermopane windows, THK3 AL. SHEET, THK30, and granite stones to present modern and future-oriented image.

In building dedication ceremony, Ki-Su Lee, a previous president of Korea university (2008. 2 – 2011.2), said “The outstanding researchers in Korea university will conduct a cooperative research in the field of nano-/medical- technology development with Battelle Memorial Institute” and he expected “International Center for Converging Technology building will conduct a function as an Asia R&D hub of Battelle Memorial Institute and Korea University will grow as the hub center of the production of knowledge in the field of nano-/medical- technology development”.

Jin-Goo Ra, a deputy mayor in Seoul City, said that “A cooperative research between Battelle Memorial Institute as the best international nonprofit corporation and Korea University as the best domestic research university is very meaningful”and he expected to increase outstanding human resource which leads to Korean future science-technology research.

Rachard Adams, a vice-president of Battelle Memorial Institute, mentioned that “Battelle Memorial Institute as the best international nonprofit corporation which investigates approximate 4 billion dollars for research funds manages about 2000 researchers”, and “This is the first time that Battelle Memorial Institute was established in Korea so I am looking forward to bringing superior research results with the research manpower of Battelle Memorial Institute”.
