Graduation Requirement

Chemically convergent academic education and education system to meet global standard

Degree Requirement
  1. 01 The Master's degree requires a minimum of 24 credits which must include at least 9 credits of core courses
    and 9 credits of major courses offered by the Department.
  2. 02 The Ph.D. degree requires a minimum of 36 credits (excluding the courses taken in the Master program) which
    must include at least 9 credits of core courses and 21 credits of major courses offered by the Department.
  3. 03 The integrated Master and Ph.D. program requires a minimum of 54 credits and 16 research guide credits
    (12 credits for the reduced course work) which must include at least 18 credits of core courses and 30 credits of major courses offered by the Department.
  4. 04 The students can take courses from other programs and 6 credits in Ph.D. and Integrated Master and Ph.D. program.
  5. 05 Students in the Integrated Master and Ph.D. program are required to spend at least four years (8 semesters) for their course work. This can be reduced to either 6 or 7 semesters for the students who meet the following requirements: completion of at least 54 credits of course work, GPA 4.0 or above for 6 or 7 semesters, and the recommendation of the student's advisor. The application can be submitted at the end of 5th or 6th semester of their course works.
  6. 06 As a graduation requirement, students in the Ph.D., and Integrated Master-Ph.D. program should satisfy one of the following conditions;

    - Publish or receive acceptance of at least 1 peer-reviewed SCI journal paper as the first author, which has an impact factor that lies within the top 10% of a given subject category.

    - Publish or receive acceptance of at least 1 peer-reviewed SCI journal paper as the first author, which has an impact factor that lies within the top 20% of a given subject category and 1 patent registration.

    - Publish or receive acceptance of at least 1 peer-reviewed SCI journal paper as the first author, which has an impact factor that lies within the top 20% of a given subject category and other general 1 peer-reviewed SCI journal paper as the first author.

    ※ Students who entered before September 2014 are required to publish or receive acceptance of at least 1 peer-reviewed SCI journal paper as the first author, which has an impact factor that lies within the top 20% of a given subject category.
  7. 07 Master degree candidates must present or publish at least one paper as first author to national or international conferences (or professional journals) before their request of thesis examination. However, if the candidate registers one patent domestically or internationally, it can be equally counted as one paper published.
  8. 08 Thesis must be written in English.

Qualifying Examinations
  1. 01 Students in the Masters program must take 3 subjects for qualifying examinations on Introduction to Cognitive Brain Science, Introduction to Applied Maths, and Introduction to Brain Signal Processing.
  2. 02 Students in the Ph.D. program and the Integrated Master and Ph.D. programmust take 4 subjects for qualifying examination on Neuroscience, Probability and Statistics for Brain and Cognitive Engineering, Introduction to Brain-Computer Interface, and Introduction to Machine Learning.
